San Diego Wedding Photography — Kelly + Ray pt. 2
11.18.10
One of the things I liked most about Kelly and Ray’s wedding venue, the Rosecroft Estate, was the estate’s collection of Dr. Seuss work. They had prints, early sketches, “hunting trophy” maquettes, and even a Seussian china cabinet. I have pictures of most of these things. I’m going to showcase some of those today, along with more of the wedding itself. For those who don’t know, Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss (Seuss was his middle name, which is a rad middle name as far as that sort of thing goes). While not a San Diego native, Geisel, later in life, called San Diego home. The library at UCSD is named in his honor. The yearly San Diego Fair was themed on Dr. Seuss a few years ago. His widow is well known locally for her charity work. And of course it goes without saying that his body of work is well regarded and a favourite of children and adults everywhere. So, without further ado, I’m going to show off a few pieces I took photos of inside the house. There is a print of The Lorax in the house, which is my favourite Dr. Seuss story, but there was too much glare on the glass, so I deemed it unworthy for showcasing…c’est la vie. Here are some pieces I did get.

I love the “hunting trophy” maquettes. You can see this maquette from another angle in the background of one of the photos from the first post (the one where Ray is getting his boutineer pinned on)

I loved this chandelier. You can also see the maquette on the left and the backside of the Seussian china cabinet on the left.

Oh, yeah, and there was a wedding going on too!

The shot below is my favourite shot of the day. I love moments like this. I didn’t tell them to do anything, but stand there while I was wrangling other wedding party members to come join the shot. I turned around and this was going on. I love being able to capture a moment that lasted seconds and giving it the possibility of living forever…

No one can seem to remember what was causing this fantastic reaction. Maybe it was the knowledge that there would be more photos to come! Did someone yell “Conga Line!”? I think so…
